Could the UK's waterways solve our congested transport system?
With around 2,000 miles of canals, the UK's waterways could provide a green - and cheap – solution to congestion on the roads.
The plans should allow more containers from abroad to arrive in the north of England rather than being loaded onto lorries in the south east and driving the length of the UK. Capacity is also being doubled at the Port of Liverpool to allow access for the biggest type of container ship.
