The murder of Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley (pt 1/3)
Following the death of David Riccio, Mary attempted to reassert her authority by making peace with the Scottish nobles and bringing the Earl of Bothwell into her government. Darnley remained unpopular in court and became a public embarrassment for Mary. In 1567, Darnley was found dead. It is still uncertain who was responsible for his murder.
