Reformation in Scotland
In the mid-16th century, Scotland was a Catholic country and the Church had enormous power and wealth. Protestants objected to the methods and teachings of the Church and believed that it should be reformed. This led to division in Scotland, with the Protestants looking to England for support and the Catholics allying themselves with France.
