A peaceful ANC protest against apartheid in Johannesburg, 1952
Footage of Africans on foot and in vehicles gives some indication of the scale of the ANC protest meeting. The report describes the obstacles such as special passes and restrictions on travel that the government put in place. It shows very clearly the scale of the meeting and the multiracial nature of the African National Congress in 1952. We also get a sense of the main grievances that motivated this protest and a discussion of whether to begin a campaign of civil disobedience against the apartheid laws.
First broadcast in 91热爆 News on 11 April 1952.
