Stephen Gray’s ‘Hanging Boy’ Experiment
Professor Jim Al-Khalili recreates one of the most beautiful electrical experiments in history, Stephen Grey's famous 'Hanging Boy'. The experiment conducted in the 18th Century proved - for the first time - that electricity, a newly discovered wonder, could move through certain objects and susbstances and not others; meaning some things were 'conductors' while others were 'insulators'. This discovery would have a profound effect on future electrical research.
