Day-flying moths

Six-spot burnet moths are a riot of colour in close up, with red spots on iridescent green wings. These are day flying moths. They are plump and might be a tasty morsel for a bird, but their bright colours say 'don't eat me - I taste disgusting!'. In scientific terms, they are aposematically coloured, that is they are brightly coloured as a warning to potential predators. Day flying moths are a lot more tactile than butterflies and a mating pair are happy to rest on Chris Packham's finger and give him a really good view.
