Tern about
There is a tern colony at Blakeney Point. Most of them are sandwich terns - about 250 pairs. Also 100 pairs of common terns and a dozen pairs of little terns. The sandwich terns are slightly larger and paler with a black head and black and yellow bill. Common terns are smaller and darker and have a red bill. The sandwich terns are incredibly talented at fishing, and when a shoal of whitebait gets trapped between the sandbanks then hundreds of terns may be diving in at once. Some of the adults are displaying to each other as part of their pair-bonding, before they separate for the winter.
