Radio 3 New Generation Artists, The Chaos Quartet, present music by two great figures of the Twentieth Century alongside a youthful quartet by Schubert. Schubert's Eb Quartet is sometimes referred to as his 'Household' quartet as it was originally written to be performed by the members of his family. It clearly owes a debt to the music of Haydn and Mozart and is characteristically rich in melody.

Also in today's programme, Mark Forrest works his way towards Friday's broadcast of Bach's St Matthew Passion with works by Bach and by some of his famous contemporaries, including the start of cycle of Brandenburg Concertos with Renaud Capu莽on and the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.
