Rhiannon Giddens on songwriting

The best folk and acoustic music, with guest Rhiannon Giddens.

The best folk and acoustic music from Britain and beyond.

This week, American singer Rhiannon Giddens talks about her new solo album, You're the One.

Rhiannon, from North Carolina, has been a standout voice in roots music since co-founding the Carolina Chocolate Drops in 2005.

A MacArthur Fellow and two-time Grammy Award winner, Rhiannon recently won the Pulitzer Prize for her work on the opera Omar. In 2016, she was the first non-British winner of Radio 2's Folk Singer of the Year award.

Rhiannon plays fiddle and banjo, and regularly works in a duo with Italian musician Francesco Turrisi.

You're the One is her first album of all-original songs and will be released in August 2023.
