Episode 10
Kate and Ben find out what lengths the keepers go to for one of Europe’s oldest elephants, and wildlife photographer Hamza witnesses some unique tiger behaviour.
It’s the tenth anniversary of the arrival of rescue elephant Anne, who spent most of her life in the circus. Kate and Ben find out how one of Europe’s oldest elephants is kept in the best possible condition. The team have a finely honed routine, tending to her every need – from breakfast to dinner, showers to entertainment. Kate treats Anne to some special snacks, and Jean Johansson discovers how the keepers keep her trunk in shape.
To discourage the lions from climbing the trees close to the perimeter fence, a large-scale building project is underway in Lion Country. The new play area for these apex predators will offer them places to climb and take refuge on rainy days. It needs to be very robust, made of huge logs and wooden platforms. The only concern is whether it will be strong enough to hold the whole pride. Ben joins the keepers as the lions explore their new installation for the very first time.
Wildlife camera operator Hamza Yassin joins the tigers for lunch and witnesses some unique behaviour, and Jean Johansson lends the keepers a hand feeding the koalas.
