with Cathy Macdonald
Buddhist Stephen Fulder on why we don't have to be scared of failure; and environmentalist Sunita Narain fresh from her Edinburgh Medal award.
Living in societies built on the idea of striving only for success, has failure been demonised and sidelined when it could be a source of wisdom and growth? Buddhist Stephen Fulder and psychotherapist Angela Trainer explore the importance of accepting failure.
Stephen Fulder talks about concept behind his book, ‘The Five Powers - A Guide To Personal Peace And Freedom’, a Buddhist guide to coping with life’s stresses.
In the uncertainty of lockdown many have reached for self-help books to soothe and guide. But why have we embraced them so much not just this past year, but increasingly over the last decade? Angela Trainer and Stephen Fulder talk to Cathy about the reasons why.
Deirdre Yellowlees is a reader in the Church of Scotland and part of the chaplaincy team which supports inmates in Perth prison and Cornton Vale women's prison in Stirling. But for a couple of days a week she leaves the prison and heads for her father's farm on the banks of Loch Tay near Kenmore, to work as a shepherd. Different environments, but for her the two roles are also similar.
In an increasingly diverse society where we’re having more conversations about our differences - be that class, race, gender, sexuality or disability – how much more challenging is it when you have to bring all these into a therapy room? Cathy talks to psychotherapist, trainer and anthropologist Dr Salma Siddique, and Director of the Harvest Clinic, Angela Trainer.
The Edinburgh Medal is an award given in recognition of significant work contributing to the well-being of humanity in the area of science and technology. Cathy is joined by this year’s recipient, Sunita Narain, an environmentalist and activist, Dr Narain is a leader in environment and development in India and globally.
The conversation on climate action continues as Cathy and Sunita are joined by Dr Michelle Nicholson-Sanz of the University of London.
