Fifteen years ago the Gaelic Language Act was passed with the aim of strengthening the language in Scotland. The Act also established Bòrd na Gà idhlig and its main aim was to achieve equality with English in daily life. Alasdair Macleod asks how successful the Act has been in arresting the Gaelic language’s decline and travels to Wales to compare how language rights for Welsh are faring there.
