Episode 3
Jools chats to Golden Globe-winning actor, comedian, musician and writer Hugh Laurie, and there is a unique performance by multi-instrumentalist and singer Jacob Collier.
Later… with Jools Holland returns for the third episode in a special and very different series, filmed at Jools’s creative home - his studio in south London.
This week, Jools chats to Golden Globe-winning actor, comedian, musician and writer Hugh Laurie. Laurie, an accomplished pianist and guitarist, discusses his love of the piano and the blues, illustrated with treats from the Later archive. Laurie’s picks reflect the influences that can be found on his own two records Let Them Talk and Didn’t It Rain, the former featuring collaborations with Sir Tom Jones, Irma Thomas and Dr John. Famed first for his comedy and acting, Laurie became a household name working on shows alongside Stephen Fry, starring roles in Hollywood and arguably his most famous part as Dr Gregory House in the drama, House.
This week also features a unique performance by multi-instrumentalist and singer Jacob Collier, who is making his debut on the show. From north London, Collier is a four-time Grammy winner and no stranger to a performance from home - it was the videos recorded in his back-room studio and uploaded to the internet that caught the attention of Quincy Jones, gained him collaborations with the likes of Chris Martin and Hans Zimmer, and which have seen critics hailing him as a musical prodigy.
