Balach aig a’ Mhullach

A young boy from Skye takes part in a challenge to climb mountains - together equal in height to Mount Everest.

Twelve year old Lachlan from the Isle of Skye has taken on a special challenge, with a group of friends from his local church. They are to climb a succession of mountains, which together are equal in height to Mount Everest. As we join them, they have only two climbs left – but this includes Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the British Isles.

Commissioned as part of the European Broadcasting Union’s I Can Do It film scheme for children, this short documentary follows Lachlan as he embarks on the most daunting leg of the task. We meet him, his family and friends throughout the preparation stage, and finally travel with him as he tackles Ben Nevis. With stunning aerial photography, Lachlan takes us with him on a challenge that few 12 year olds will ever face.

Tha Lachlan, aois dà bhliadhna dheug às an Eilean Sgìtheanach, a gabhail dùbhlan sònraichte os làimh. Còmhla ri buidheann de charaidean às eaglais a bhaile, feumaidh e diofar bheanntan Albannach a shreap, a tha còmhla cho àrd ri Mount Everest. Nuair a tha sinn a’ tachairt ris, chan eil aige ach na dhà eile ri dhol – ach sè aon dhiu Beinn Neibheis, an tè is àirde ann am Breatainn.

Chaidh am fiolm goirid seo a riochdachadh mar phàirt den sceama Eòrpach “I Can Do It,” a tha leantainn clann air feadh na Roinn-Eòrpa ‘s iad a feuchainn air diofar dhùbhlain leithid spòrs, gniomhachas, agus a bhith dìon an àrainneachd. Le seallaidhean àllainn an Eilein Sgìtheanaich agus tir mòr na Gàidhealtachd, tha Lachlan fhèin gar stiùireadh tro na ceumannan mu dheireadh dhan euchd aige.
