Mary Anne speaks to The Stone Roses' guitarist and visual artist, John Squire. John recently opened a new exhibition of his work, at Damien Hirst's gallery in London.

Perhaps best known for his role as lead guitarist in The Stone Roses, John has been making visual art since childhood.

His latest exhibition - titled 鈥楧isinformation鈥� - will be displayed in Newport Street Gallery in London. 鈥楧isinformation鈥� will feature a new series of large-scale oil paintings by John, which are based on photographs taken by the artist or found online.

In this interview we hear all about John's early exposure to art, his from his experiences at school to his love of record sleeves. We discuss his latest project, in which John alters images using editing software and social media apps, which he overloads to prompt visual glitches.

These partially distorted, fragmented scenes are then enlarged from their original small screen format and rendered in the traditional medium of oil and canvas. The figures blend, blur and collide with their surroundings, their features confused and sometimes entirely lost.

We also hear the story behind the artwork for The Stone Roses' debut album.

John Squire was a founding member and lead guitarist of the Stone Roses. He has released two solo albums and is also known for his role in defining the now-iconic visual aesthetic of the Stone Roses.
