Slighe sgoile Papua New Guinea/Ways to school in Papua New Guinea

Focusing on children living in Papua New Guinea, an island in the Pacific Ocean, in the middle of one of the world’s largest rainforests.

Focusing on children living in Papua New Guinea, an island in the Pacific Ocean, in the middle of one of the world’s largest rainforests. Their journey to school in the so-called ‘Land of 1000 Rivers’ takes five days, through jungles in whose branches the notorious green tree python lurks. For the children these snakes are not just a threat but also a delicacy, because they hunt their own food every day.

Facing the most extreme conditions, the children in this series must march, climb or swim their way to school. And yet, they have only one goal in sight, education and a better life. These children have the most spectacular and most dangerous way to school in the world.

Tha a’ chlann seo a’ fuireach ann am Papua New Guinea, air eilean ann am meadhan a’ Chuain Shèimh, ann an aon de na coilltean-uisge as motha san t-saoghal. Tha an t-slighe dhan sgoil, san àite aithnichte mar ‘Thìr nam Mìle Aibhne’ a’ maireadh còig làithean tro dhlùth-choilltean, far a bheil nathair na craoibhe uaine air falach anns na geugan. Ach chan eil na nathraichean seo dìreach nan cunnart, ’s e biadh a th’ ann dhaibh cuideachd, ’s iad a’ sealg gach là airson iad fhèin a chumail a’ dol.

Feumaidh a' chlann san t-sreath seo coiseachd, sreap no snàmh ann an suidheachaidhean cunnartach air an t-slighe chun na sgoile. Chan eil aca ach aon amas: foghlam a nì leasachadh air am beatha. 'S ann aig a' chloinn seo a tha na slighean sgoile as cunnartaiche air thalamh – agus cuid dhen fheadhainn as bòidhche cuideachd.
