For many people in Wales, the Prince of Wales' Investiture at Caernarfon Castle on 1st July 1969 was an occasion for joy and celebration. Others saw it as a modern-day symbol of a centuries-old conquest and humiliation. As preparations for the big day in Caernarfon intensified, so too did the anti-Investiture protests, and the nation became increasingly polarised. Societies, communities and even families were divided in their loyalty, and organisations such as the Free Wales Army and Mudiad Amddiffyn Cymru (MAC) ramped up their paramilitary activity.

In this programme, Bethan Rhys Roberts explores the tensions and divisions that troubled Wales during the summer of '69, through the first hand accounts of those who were there.
