Sea Change
We know that ocean water is moved by currents and circulation. The North Atlantic Ocean Circulation is also a major player in the climate system. It acts like a conveyer belt that brings warm water from the tropics to the cooler reaches of the North Atlantic - and Europe. But researchers at Cardiff University's School of Ocean Sciences have discovered that this important circulation is at it's weakest for over 1500 years. Prof Ian Hall joins Adam to discuss how the study was carried out - and what the implications of this weakening system might be.
Dr Pippa Moore, a marine biologist at Aberystwyth University, returns to the programme to talk about her latest research on Marine Heatwaves, which have become more frequent recently. And her colleague,聽Institute Director Neil Glasser, a聽Professor of Physical Geography聽at Aberystwyth, explains thermal expansion and it's role in rising sea levels.聽
