The Spencer Davis Story
Swansea-born musician Spencer Davis talks about his life in the music business, from his days with his uncle Herman and his mandolin to founding one of the great groups of the 60s.
The Swansea-born musician talks his extraordinary life in the music business - from his days with his Uncle Herman and his mandolin in his blitzed home city to founding one of the great groups of the 60s. In a frank interview Spencer talks being converted to blues and R&B music, first hearing Stevie Winwood and inviting him to join his band, the eventual split and his own solo career that sees him still performing live. He recalls the moment - a "ghostly transition" - when the roots of British popular music changed from rock and roll to R&B. He explains the process of creating his band's biggest hits like Keep On Running, and of taking American music back to the USA. At its height, The Spencer Davis Group knocked The Beatles from the top of the charts - and then Spencer joined them on the Magical Mystery Tour.
