Sounds of Wales

A special St David's Day listening experience. Using innovative 3-D spatial audio, Hugh Huddy travels the length and breadth of Wales, discovering the nation through sound.

What puts the 'hear' in 'hiraeth'? A special St David's Day listening experience as we explore Wales with our ears. We're alongside Hugh Huddy, sound artist and Policy Manager for RNIB as he travels the length and breadth of Wales, discovering the nation through its sounds.

Listening is the way Hugh navigates and connects with the world. On this journey he listens to Wales's landscapes - natural, industrial and urban - and asks people to think about sounds they often take for granted. We hear the calls of seals on a Pembrokeshire beach; a miner's memories of the lost sounds of the colliery; a climber describes the reflection of sound off rock; and we're on the streets of Cardiff on Six Nations match day. At each location Hugh and his guests take time to stop, listen and understand the world through sound.

Presented in innovative spatial audio that puts you in the middle of a 3-D sound world, this programme is best experienced on headphones.
