A man is due in court charged with the murder of Anne O'Neill in Belfast at the weekend.
The mother of a 33-year-old Strabane woman who died after an extreme reaction to medication says she hopes lessons can be learned from her daughter's death. Elaine McGrinder had been receiving treatment for a kidney condition in 2015. She developed a rash, however, and after being admitted to hospital was diagnosed with Stevens Johnston syndrome: an extremely rare that causes the skin to separate from the body. Elaine then went on to develop a more severe variant of the condition called Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (neck-ro lye-sis). At an inquest into her death yesterday, coroner Joe McCrisken said he hoped the case would improve knowledge and awareness of the condition.
A local paramedic who was assaulted by a man he was treating in his ambulance says he has been left deeply traumatised. Michael Mc'Connell was left with soft tissue damage and bad bruising after being attacked in the early hours of Monday morning. A 36-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident outside Altnagelvin Hospital. It's the second time Michael has been attacked by patients he has been trying to help.
