Adam Walton explores the progress of renewable energy technology. From students in Wrexham studying to be the next generation of green energy engineers, to scientists researching ways to enhance the biodiversity of a major tidal energy scheme. The programme also visits the site of a small hydro-electric co-operative project in Denbighshire.

Tapping into nature's powerhouse

This week Adam Walton and guests explore the ways in which energy can be generated using different types of renewable energy scheme.

We hear about how students in Wrexham Glyndwr University are studying the whole range of renewable energy options, and gearing up to be the green engineers of tomorrow.聽

Adam chats to Dr Simon Neill of Bangor School of Ocean Sciences about the Quotient project which looks at tidal and wave energy and how we can maximise the energy benefit from both as we move through the 21st century and the predicted changes in weather patterns.

We hear from Dr John Griffin from the Biosciences Department in Swansea, and how he's been researching ways of enhancing the biodiversity around the proposed Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon, which aims to produce electricity using the energy generated by daily tides.

There's also an insight into a smaller renewable energy scheme, in Denbighshire, the Corwen Electricity Co-operative, which is a hydro-electric generation project using water from Nant-y-pigyn watercourse.
