Cover Me: A Twelve Inch History Of Wales
From The Manic Street Preachers to Roxy Music, Elis James looks at how some of rock music’s most seminal album covers and artwork have been inspired by the Welsh landscape
Comedian Elis James travels the length of Wales and reveals how, from The Manic Street Preachers to Roxy Music, from Mansun to Echo and the Bunnymen, some of rock music’s most seminal album covers and artwork were inspired by the Welsh landscape.
Contributors such as the Manic Street Preachers’ Sean Moore and former Mansun frontman Paul Draper explain how Wales’ coasts, mountains and urban areas have long provided inspiration for artists working in every medium, and in particular, why Wales has laid a canvas for some of the most iconic album covers in the dazzling history of pop music.
Self-confessed music geek Elis asks why Bryan ferry decided to dress supermodel Jerry Hall as a mermaid and take her and take her to the exotic shores of Anglesey. We’ll also discover how the Manic Street Preachers marked an emotive homecoming on a Welsh beach, and how Portmeirion, Porthcawl and Newport have all provided a backdrop for some of rock music’s most memorable artwork.
