Out of the envelope - Peter Skellern

Frank Renton presents brass tracks that take the band out of the envelope.

Frank Renton presents a programme inspired by, and indeed dedicated to the memory of Peter Skellern who died last month leaving such a wealth of music. His work with brass bands was exceptional, all great fun, and adventurous. And it's the business of taking the band into musical places it doesn't normally occupy that is the theme of this programme. American jazz guitarist Pat Metheny is reinvented by Eikanger Bjorsvik, House Music Anthems have long been on the programmes of The Fairey Band, and on the CD Summon the Heroes we hear a completely different take on the sound you might expect to hear from a military band.
