Stories

St Beuno’s Jesuit Spirituality Centre

Taking a slight turn off the North Wales pilgrim way, Aled heads to St Beuno’s, a Jesuit retreat centre. He explores the exercises of the Society of Jesus’ founder, St Ignatius, and finds out why many people, of Catholic faith and none, still come to silent retreats in the Welsh countryside.

St. Valentine

The Rev. Kate Bottley is in search of St. Valentine, in Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church, Dublin. She meets Father Brian McKay who explains how the saint lost his head for love, and why so many couples come here to have their rings blessed.

Welsh Pilgrims - Part One

Aled is back on the North Wales pilgrim way and has reached the end of the path on the mainland. The village of Aberdaron housed many a pilgrim as they prepared to make the trip to Bardsey. Aled hopes to get across but in the meantime explores the pilgrim history of this small Welsh village.

Welsh Pilgrims - Part Two

Aled is on a boat to Bardsey, reputed to be the resting place of 20,000 saints. After a choppy crossing across the Sound, he chats to the Island manager and explores its Christian history and enduring spiritual appeal.
