Balaich na h-Airde

Documentary telling the story of four brothers from Lewis and their achievements in broadcasting, writing, acting and singing.

The Smith 'boys of Aird' have each made their mark. This programme considers their enviable talents and hears them reflect on life growing up in the village of Aird Dell, Lewis. Better known as "D貌mhnall Ruadh", Donald Smith was a leading player in the Gaelic theatre movement of the 1970s and '80s. He is known too through television dramas such as Machair and Gruth is Uachdar.

Norman Smith won the Mod Gold Medal for traditional singing in 2003. The programme looks back at his career in the Merchant Navy, and observes his joy at becoming a grandfather. John Smith directs many of the 91热爆's biggest hits from Hogmanay Live to The Chelsea Flower Show. Some familiar faces reveal what it's like to work with him, live.

Youngest brother Coinneach "Ruadh" Smith was presenter of Radio nan G脿idheal's music show Caithris na h-Oidhche, earning a special place in the hearts of teenagers listeners. In 1985, Coinneach was tragically killed in a road accident.

Here, his brothers speak movingly of their loss. With a new generation of Smiths now also enjoying success, this moving film celebrates one family's outstanding contribution to the Gaelic community.
