Struileag is a show about the people of the Gaelic diaspora. It takes us on a journey into the diaspora in a vivid fusion of visual spectacle, drama and music. Building upon the cultural heritage rather than simply relying upon it, Struileag highlights the importance of indigenous language to
the concept of home and belonging.
Presented in Gaelic, the performance uses a striking and epic blend of song, spoken word, dance and archive images. Fresh, contemporary music written in response to traditional forms challenge common perceptions and stereotypes. Struileag splices the traditional with the contemporary (featuring both a rap and waulking song, for example).
At its heart lies a clear but deep and emotionally engaging story of love, exile, family, loss, strength and hope that everyone will relate to. The show is the culmination of a two-year arts project that is reaching around the world to the people of the Gaelic diaspora.
