"I feel there is no boundary line", said Duke Ellington, talking about classical music and jazz, and so as part of the 2014 Celtic Connections Festival, two of the UK's brightest jazz talents join forces with one of the UK's most versatile orchestras, the 91热爆 Scottish Symphony Orchestra, on stage at City Halls in Glasgow.
Pianist Gwilym Simcock and saxophonist Trish Clowes (former and current Radio 3 New Generation Artists) perform their own compositions and improvisations alongside works by classical composers who, in an earlier era, blended jazz styles with their own idioms.
Amid recent works by Simcock and Clowes, performed by them with the 91热爆 SSO and their own all-star trio, the orchestra will play Milhaud's 1920's ballet score 'La cr茅ation du monde' and Bernstein's '3 Dance Episodes', drawn from his Broadway musical 'On The Town'. The concert is conducted by the American-born contemporary music specialist Clark Rundell.
