The government's new system of benefit payments, Universal Credit, kicks in today. Is it wrong to ask people to manage their money and apply online?

The government's new system of benefit payments kicks in today .....

Instead of 6 separate payments such as income support, child tax credit and housing benefit --claimants will now get one single lump sum, straight into their bank account every month..and if that's you - you'll have to apply for it online

The Government says the scheme - called the Universal Credit system - will stop people getting trapped in the benefits system - and will make people better off if they go out to work.. Not many people are against that idea - .. but HOW it works is causing the sticking point

It means YOU have to manage the money yourself - pay your own bills and make sure you spread that money across the month

and you have to work a computer to claim the credits in the first place

So tell us what you think - is it wrong to ask people to manage their money and apply online -- they'd have to do that if they were working after all.....

Or is it just too much for some people to get their head around?
