Gabriel and Leyla are still struggling with their Christmas kiss. Will Christina see in the New Year with Big Bob? Gina and Eileen go to war over a misunderstanding.

It's Hogmanay... Christina is upset to find her letter to Big Bob has come back 'Return To Sender' and lashes out at Tatiana. When Molly reveals Big Bob is leaving for good, Christina hatches a plan. Enlisting the help of Nicole and Stevie, the three set out for Helensburgh to find the big man and bring him back... However, Nicole's youthful hopefulness soon turns to misery when Big Bob, busking in the street, tells her in no uncertain terms that he's finished with her and her mother. Meanwhile, Nicole and Stevie use the time away from prying eyes in Shieldinch (mainly Michael's, it has to be said) to get jiggy in the back of Stevie's van. Christina hopes the image of the handprint of Tattie's stillborn child might make Big Bob change his mind about leaving, but he is adamant and it changes nothing. Back at the van, it might not be the ideal setting, but Nicole is ready to lose her virginity and they make love for the first time. This is in stark contrast to a forlorn Christina who sits alone, forcing cider down her neck to blot out the pain of Big Bob's rejection. Nicole and Stevie look for Christina as they've promised Michael they'll be back in time for a special dinner, but when they eventually find her she's clearly the worse for wear and upon their return to Shieldinch take her home to face the music with Tattie. However, a hungover Christina still blames her mother and Tattie is left in no doubt that her young daughter is heartbroken. At the Brodie's, Michael is irked when Stevie is asked to join the family meal, but eventually gives in seeing as it's Hogmanay. Later, as everyone gathers outside the Ship a reluctant Christina joins Tattie and Molly, but as the strains of Auld Lang Syne fade away Christina hears a familiar voice and as the crowd parts... along comes Big Bob to embrace her in a massive bear hug.

Eileen starts her day as normal, but when Iona discovers mouse droppings in the Deli Eileen is forced to bring in Environmental Health. That'd be fine, but when the source of the mouse infestation is located under the Oyster it suddenly has massive ramifications for Gina when the cafe is forced to close. Gina can't believe her officious sister has threatened her business, but Eileen counters that she's doing her a favour - if there's a mouse infestation then it's better to deal with it now rather than later. Gina's day goes from bad to worse when she has to let Stella go until the cafe re-opens, especially as it's the day of Stella's engagement party, and she slowly begins to resent Eileen's interfering ways. Alone with Murray, Gina resolves not to let Eileen get in the way of a good Hogmanay, but when they arrive at the Ship (and the drink flows) it soon becomes clear that the likes of Raymond, Malcolm and Liz are in for a bumpy ride. Tensions simmer and soon old petty jealousies and sibling rivalries come to the surface and Gina is forced to step away downstairs into the bar for fear of upsetting Malcolm (who has a slight wobble in the kitchen where he forgets what he was doing). However, Eileen is riled and follows Gina into the bar and as the argument intensifies the Hogmanay revellers are shocked when Eileen wallops Gina a smack in the face. Gina could retaliate, but a distraught Malcolm stops her and she heads off home. Upset Malcolm points the finger of blame at Eileen and finally Eileen agrees to apologize. However, Eileen gets a nasty surprise when a stony Gina refuses her apology: she'll never forgive her.

After their kiss on Christmas Day, Gabriel is keen to avoid Leyla and so throws himself into Stella and Bob's impromptu engagement party (it's actually Gabriel's idea). Soon, Iona is enlisted as party planner and as the fun begins in preparing alcoholic punch and party favours for later it isn't long before Stella notices a spark between Gabriel and Iona. However, Gabriel is simply keeping busy to keep his mind off of Leyla, but later, when a more-than-tipsy Iona suggests a pact - if she and Gabriel are still single in a year's time then they should get together - he catches Leyla's eye and knows he needs to confront her. Alone with Leyla, he gets her to admit that their kiss meant as much to her as it did to him, but before they might kiss again Iona stumbles upon them and the moment is lost... for now.
