Ruth is forced to make an important decision, but what will the consequences be? Murray begins to suspect that Jack and Gina may be more than just good friends.
Robbie's enjoying the fantasy lifestyle he has created around the mythical. It comes to an abrupt end when Grayson turns up in Shieldinch and collapses on the street. Afraid of his secret being revealed, Robbie doesn't admit to knowing Grayson and stands back as a passer-by but Scott's arrival starts to unravel Robbie's deceit. In shock, Robbie can't bring himself to confide in Hayley, but some home truths from Scott snap him out of it. Scott tells Robbie that Grayson isn't just some clapped out old actor, but a man who went to jail for gay rights and helped pave the way for the freedom they have now. He deserves respect not the shabby treatment Robbie has been giving him.
As the truth spills out about Robbie's arrangement with Grayson, Hayley is disappointed and dismayed at Robbie's behaviour. Robbie is ashamed that he never took the time to learn about who Grayson really is.
Robbie visits Grayson at hospital - he's apologetic and wants to make amends. Grayson is anxious though - there's something he needs to tell him. Robbie is reflective about what he's learnt about himself through Grayson and insists he's keen to right his wrongs. However, Robbie is stunned when a buff young guy called Jason arrives at the hospital room and he realises what Grayson has been trying to tell him - he's dumped.
The end of his arrangement with Grayson has bigger consequences than just a drop in income. Robbie is left feeling his age and pondering - what if he's too old for the scene he's enjoyed for so long? What's next for Robbie Fraser?
Amber is surprised to receive a cheque from her parents, which is an advance on the sale of their house. After initially wanting nothing to do with them, she sees sense that it's what she's owed and toys with various ways to spend her money. Malcolm and Liz are concerned that she may fritter it away. They encourage her to speak to Fraser, who they see as an upstanding member of the community.
Meanwhile, Amber calls upon Gabriel's assistance to help her out with snags in Hola's refit. Gabriel doesn't like being treated as a tradesman and insists on payment in the form of a drink at The Tall Ship. Gabriel thinks his charm is beginning to wear down Amber's cool barriers but he's miffed when the drink is cut short when Fraser whisks Amber away for dinner. Gabriel is left stewing but won't concede defeat.
Ruth is upset to discover Andy has been reading up on mental health behind her back. She is still nervous at work after her 'mistake' with Mr Stewart and dithers dangerously about how to treat Grayson during his collapse. It takes Leyla confessing the truth about the mistake to give Ruth the presence of mind to accurately medicate Grayson. After the initial drama passes, Ruth is furious about Leyla's deceit. She points out the consequences she's suffered, not just professionally but within her marriage. Ruth threatens to tell Michael unless Leyla does herself. Leyla duly complies and Michael is raging with her. It's a hollow victory for Ruth as the cracks within her marriage remain. Andy tries to get things back on track by being intimate but Ruth rejects his advances and the distance between them widens.
Gina and Jack have a drink at the Oyster alone but their intimate moment is interrupted by Murray. Gina lies to cover her tracks and it's clear that this side of having an affair doesn't agree with her at all. When Jack returns to the Oyster to collect his keys, Murray's antenna twitches and back home, he can't resist looking at Gina's phone when it bleeps with a text. He sees it's from Jack and doesn't need to read it to have his suspicions confirmed - Murray's certain that Gina is having an affair.
