Terry Jones, the US pastor who threatened to burn copies of the Koran on the anniversary of 9/11 on Saturday says his plans are "on hold". But Bryan Thomas, who lives in Gainsville where the burning was due to take place, tells us a sect has burned a Koran in the town already.

A day before the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, Noman Benotman, a former friend of Osama Bin Laden, explains why he's calling on al-Qaeda to end its armed struggle.

A rescue operation to save a stranded humpback whale is due to resume, off Shetland. It's believed to have got its tail stuck among buoys and ropes used to catch shellfish. Jan Bevington who runs the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary explains what the rescuers will be doing.
