Introducing Contains Strong Language 2020
22 September 2020
The UK’s biggest poetry and performance festival of new writing returns in 2020. Bringing over 20 events to Cumbria from 25-27 September, leading poets and world class spoken word artists take to the stage alongside brand new voices. A celebration of the spoken word in all its poetic forms via broadcast, digital streaming and live performance.
Poetry has never been more relevant than now. In light of the global pandemic we are living through, the power of this vital, dynamic art form has become increasingly important as we try to make sense of the world and how our lives have all been transformed in this early part of the 21st century.
Over 20 events in Cumbria over three days, as leading poets and world class spoken word artists take to the stage alongside brand new voices.
Contains Strong Language 2020 is a three-day celebration of the spoken word during which our poets will present work to provoke and inspire everyone. CSL is back for its fourth year, relocating to Cumbria in recognition of the 250th anniversary of William Wordsworth’s birth. There are events in Grasmere, Carlisle, Kirkby Lonsdale and Barrow-in-Furness.
This year’s festival is somewhat different to previous years as we have had to adapt and change what we do due to restrictions and guidelines on large scale public events. However, CSL 2020 still presents a heady and packed programme of acclaimed international and local poets, world class spoken word artists and breakthrough talent.
Our CSL poets will be resident for the duration of the festival, performing newly commissioned work created especially for the festival which can be accessed across the 91热爆 radio network and seen via live streaming on the 91热爆 Arts Contains Strong Language website. Cumbria will offer a warm poetry welcome to artists, poetry lovers and the wider 91热爆 audience.
The festival is a partnership between 91热爆 Audio, 91热爆 Arts, 91热爆 Radio Cumbria, Wrecking Ball Press, Arts Council England, Up For Arts, Wordsworth Grasmere, the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, the Kirkby Lonsdale Poetry Festival and The Forum, Barrow.
A limited number of tickets for a small selection of Contains Strong Language 2020 events can be booked in advance.
