Big changes to evenings on Radio Ulster will be music to listeners' ears
Coming of age - Across The Line
91Èȱ¬ Radio Ulster's long-running
music programme Across The Line (ATL)
turns 21 this year and to celebrate, it
is treating itself to a new look.
Ìý
To ensure it comes of age in style, ATL is getting a new image on radio and online to offer its fans more choice, more interaction and more accessibility.
Ìý
From 5 February 2007, Across The Line will
have two new style radio programmes which
will focus on the best new contemporary
music and dance music, as well as a
completely revamped website, all of which
are set to continue its reputation as an
essential and trusted guide to the best new
music from home and abroad.
Ìý
On Monday evenings from 7.30-10pm
ATL stalwart Rigsy will, in his own inimitable
style, present a new look, fast-paced, jampacked
Across The Line.
Ìý
In the space of 2 hours 30 minutes, ATL
listeners will be treated to an adrenalin rush of all the best the best new music from the
likes of CSS, The Klaxons and The Gossip as
well as more established acts such as Oasis
and Franz Ferdinand, the best new local
music, exclusive sessions, festival coverage,
live sets, big name interviews and all the
latest news, reviews and features.
Ìý
Rigsy says: "‘I am genuinely excited about
the new look Across the Line. It's now two
shows a week and what a pair of shows
they will be! We've a lot of plans and intend
to make what will be unmissable radio.
Ìý
"I think
anyone who knows me will understand just
how enthusiastic I am about new music,
specifically new local music, and I intend to
make my new Monday show 150-minutes of
absolutely amazing tuneage. We've some
great guests, features and all sorts of
madness planned as well.
Ìý
"The website is also improving – and it was
already an essential, daily stop for anyone
into local music. We've loads of video
content planned and we need you to help
us, so stay tuned! With the new series of
ATL TV on air soon as well, these are pretty
exciting times. I'm made up."
Ìý
Across The Line – Dance on Saturday nights
from 12.05-2am, will see Paul Hamill
pumping out the freshest new underground
electronica live from the Across The Line
studios or from the best clubs across
Northern Ireland.
Ìý
Moving from 8pm on Thursday evenings to
Saturday nights means that Across The Line
– Dance will go from being a relaxed pre-weekend

of clubbing, immersing itself in the nightlife
of Northern Ireland.

Across The Line – Dance will maintain its
commitment to local electronica producers
and DJs and also provide informative opinion
and information on all the latest in
underground dance music as well as hosting
regular live mixes from the world's finest
jocks as they visit Northern Ireland.
Ìý
Paul Hamill says: "ATL- Dance moving to
Saturday night is going to be such an exciting
event for dance music fans in Northern
Ireland. The fact that it puts us right at the
very heart of the weekend allows us to bring
the show out on the road throughout the
year and broadcast live from some of
Northern Ireland's finest clubs.
Ìý
"There's a real
opening for us to broadcast from clubs on a
Saturday night, and listeners have the added
value of logging on to the internet and listen
to the show all over again from the comfort
of their homes which the bbc.co.uk/radioulster player allows people to do!
Ìý
As always, we'll continue to support the
best new electronic music from Ireland and
around the world and give local artists a
platform to showcase their work."
Ìý
Another exciting change to Across The Line
is the completely revamped and supercharged
website at bbc.co.uk/atl.
Ìý
Here ATL fans can find a brilliant new
website which has been given a complete
make-over to provide users with even more
quality music, more interaction and more
freedom than ever before.
Ìý
As well as offering users the chance to listen
to the Across The Line radio programmes,
bbc.co.uk/atl will also feature exclusive video
footage from Across The Line's big name
interviews and live sessions, clips from gigs
from Northern Ireland and the Republic of
Ireland and additional unseen and unheard
clips from both Across The Line on
Radio Ulster and ATL TV.
Ìý
And on top of all this, ATL fans will be able
to interact with the programme more than
ever before. The new-look website will be
asking fans for their views on gigs, music and
much more as well as offering a newimproved
ATL gig guide calendar and all the
latest news, reviews and competitions.
Ìý
Soon after the launch of Across The Line on
Radio Ulster and bbc.co.uk/atl, ATL will
become fully multi-platform by returning to
the small screen with a brand new series of
ATL TV featuring more top interviews and
live music and ATL Rockschool will also
return to be give local bands the chance to
battle it out in front of top industry judges
in a bid to win the coveted ATL Rockschool
trophy.
Ìý
ATL producer Paul McClean says: "Across
the Line has survived Britpop, rave, nu-rave
and will no doubt survive nu-nu rave when
that happens.
Ìý
"We cannot wait to be
unleashed with the new sound and the great
new website. There is a serious amount of
great new bands knocking on the door and
it will be great pleasure to bring that to the
people of Northern Ireland over the next
few years with the Radio, TV and our online
site."
