91Èȱ¬ Three Winter/Spring 2007
Julian Bellamy writes...
"I'm delighted to introduce what I believe is another incredibly strong season on 91Èȱ¬ Three.
Ìý
"I've been at the channel for a year now and what a way to finish 2006 with a channel that is
going from strength to strength. Torchwood, Pulling, Little Miss Jocelyn, The Real Hustle, the Body Image season and Celebrity Scissorhands have helped make autumn hugely successful.
Ìý
"We're breaking records – Torchwood was watched by 2.3 million people on launch night, making it
the highest performing non-sports programme ever on a digital channel, and currently over
300,000 new users every week are visiting the 91Èȱ¬ Three website which was literally "taken
over" by Torchwood - that's a 100 per cent increase in visits.
Ìý
"The Body Image season pushed
the channel to its highest weekly reach in its history and more and more young viewers are
watching. When many competitor digital channels are losing audiences, it's a real achievement
for 91Èȱ¬ Three to be growing audience share by 15 per cent a year amongst young viewers.
Ìý
"The autumn schedule is a tough act to follow, but I believe 91Èȱ¬ Three's Winter/Spring 2007
season does exactly that. It gets off to a cracking start with a fantastic range of new comedy,
factual and entertainment shows, all with 91Èȱ¬ Three values at their heart – maverick,
innovative, thought-provoking and bursting with new and emerging talent.
Ìý
"Comedy is at the heart of the channel's Winter/Spring season with no less than six
brand-new comedy series being launched and premiered via the website. Gavin And Stacey,
Touch Me I'm Karen Taylor, Thieves Like Us, Rush Hour, Smalltime and Comedy Shuffle With Rob
Rouse all showcase new, diverse British talent - from Ruth Jones to Matthew Horne, from
Karen Taylor to Steve Edge. It's also great to welcome back Ash Atalla's sketch show, Man
Stroke Woman, with its fantastic cast, and Rob Brydon's Annually Retentive.
Ìý
"We're
also handing over the 91Èȱ¬ Three website for six weeks to The Cowards – a fantastically
exciting four-man comedy show. This is our first broadband comedy commission exclusively
for the web.
Ìý
"Three's ever-curious mind continues to serve up a range of new factual programmes,
including new factual entertainment series such as Panic Room and Last Man Standing; two big
seasons on modern teen life and body image; and a thought-provoking event, Meat, which
explores and demystifies the process of how food ends up on our plates.
Ìý
"Entertainment also plays a big role this Winter/Spring with Comic Relief Does Fame Academy,
The Verdict and Castaway all having a major presence on the channel.
Ìý
"At 91Èȱ¬ Three we're obsessive about making great television, taking risks, supporting new
and emerging talent and innovating across digital platforms in new and pioneering ways.
Enjoy."
