Neil Dudgeon plays Harry

Sorted - new drama series for 91Èȱ¬ ONE

Neil Dudgeon plays Harry

Harry faces up to some big choices and several betrayals – his own and others – in Sorted.

Ìý

His world starts changing when he saves the life of a woman who lives on his postal round. The next day he visits her in hospital, she invites him for a drink to say thank you and it quickly becomes clear that there is an unmistakeable connection between the two.

Ìý

"At the start of the series Harry is working on the post after his best mate Charlie got him a job when he lost his own printing business. He's basically of a certain age, looking at his life and thinking it's okay, but it's just a bit sort of humdrum," explains Neil.

Ìý

"He's been married to Kathy for 20 years and he's thinking 'is this it, is this all there is for the rest of my life?' Then he meets Roisin and he's very attracted to her. He is just dipping a little toe into a world of possibility and there's a frisson there that he hasn't found in many years."

Ìý

"It's a bit of a reminder to him of how things used to be in his life and he starts thinking about where all those feelings went. Then Kathy is involved in a very serious car crash and he finds out that she's been hiding some pretty big secrets from him and it makes him question everything that he hadn't previously questioned.

Ìý

"He starts to think maybe he's just been punting along the bottom thinking everything is okay when really it isn't.

Ìý

"All of a sudden, the loyalty he felt to Kathy isn't there any more and he's faced with a decision - 'Am I talking about leaving the wife and kids to go off with this woman?' And of course, this is all complicated by the fact that Kathy is in a coma."

Ìý

Neil thinks it's the kind of situation that a lot of people can relate to - being torn between the passion and excitement of something new and the stability of something they know.

Ìý

"It's about making choices about what you want in your life. Do I replace friendship, security, contentment and a lot of things that add up to your wellbeing – do I sacrifice all that for a thrill?

Ìý

"I think it's a very fundamental story about people's lives, thinking am I in the right relationship, should I be in a different relationship, is what I've got in this relationship better than someone else's?"

Ìý

"He's facing some difficult choices, but at least he got to be a hero," laughs Neil. "Every man should get that chance at least once."

Ìý

The Yorkshire-born actor is always working and never off the small screen for long. His credits are extensive and varied spanning television, film and theatre.

Ìý

Recently on television Neil starred in Jimmy McGovern's hit drama series The Street, and he appears alongside Joanne Whalley in the film Breathtaking. His other TV credits include Messiah, The Mrs Bradley Mysteries, Midsomer Murders and Between The Lines.
