Around 40,000 special Bluey coins have been recovered by police in Australia after they vanished earlier this year.

Back in July it was reported that 63,000 of the limited edition coins featuring the children's character Bluey were stolen from a warehouse in Sydney, in Australia, two months before they were supposed to be released to the public.

Local police launched a special investigation team called: Strike Force Bandit - named after Bluey's dad - to try to track down the missing coins.

Now they've discovered 40,061 of them.

The gold-coloured coins were made by the Australian Mint, and are called Bluey dollarbucks – which is what money is called in the cartoon – and have pictures of characters from the show on them.

The coins are worth one Australian dollar (50p) but the stolen coins had reportedly been selling online for ten times more.

The cartoon series follows the daily adventures of a family of dogs called the Heeler family, and is made by the animation company Ludo, with 91Èȱ¬ Studios and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

The stolen coins are different from a set of Bluey coins that went on sale by the Royal Australian Mint in June this year.

People have arrested three people in connection with the investigation.
