Amazing animal animatronicsPublished13 March 2014Image caption, These robots are part of an incredible new wave of robots inspired by some of our furry friends from the animal kingdom, like "Charlie" an ape-like robot developed by the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence. Charlie can walk on all four limbs, and could be used to explore all kinds of tough terrain, including the moon!Image caption, This robot's design is based on a bull, and is called an LS 3 or Legged Squad Support System. The LS 3 can gallop at high speeds, but is designed to accompany soldiers and Marines any place they go on foot, helping to carry their gear on long distances. It can carry up to 400lbs that's about the same weight as a full grown adult lion!Image caption, This cute robotic dog was shown at the Robot Museum in Madrid, where it would wag its tail and nuzzle anyone who came near!Image caption, A team from the University of Essex designed this fish robot, which is being tested out in the London Aquarium. The life-like fish-bot has sensor-based controls to help it avoid bumping into things, and could be used on seabed explorations, or to detect oil leaks in pipelines.Image caption, Scientists have created a crew of organised robots that can build towers, castles and pyramids without any supervision or detailed instructions, just like the incredible termite, an insect which can build massive mounds from dirt, that can reach 9 metres in height!
