The company responsible for water in Jersey saw an £800,000 increase in pre-tax profits to £4.96m.

Jersey Water said it was pleased with its performance in a year that had below average rainfall.

They said that while overall profits were up, its operating profits were slightly down on 2010.

The company director Howard Snowden said that was because it had to turn the sea into drinking water which cost £250,000.

The firm also spent £5.5m on maintenance including improvements at Val de la Mar reservoir and putting water meters in homes.

The company said more than half of its customers were now metered.
