A man who died in police custody has been named as Meirion James.

Mr James, 53, died at Haverfordwest police station on Saturday after being arrested in Crymych, Pembrokeshire.

Dyfed-Powys Police attended a minor road traffic incident involving Mr James on Friday, though his arrest on Saturday was for a separate incident.

He was deemed fit to be detained by a police medical examiner but he became unresponsive and was taken to Withybush Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the death.

The IPCC is asking for witnesses to the crash close to the Neuadd Goffa memorial hall and Texaco garage on the A487 at Llanrhystud at around 13:00 GMT on 30 January to come forward.

A post mortem examination has been carried out but no cause of death has been determined.
