A public consultation has been launched on the future of urgent stroke services in Kent and Medway.

It was that stroke centres could close and be replaced by three new 24/7 "hyper-acute" units.

Kent's eight clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) issued plans to replace three of the six existing units with specialist units.

The NHS is asking for people's views on the proposals.

The consultation runs for 10 weeks until midnight on Friday 13 April.

Wightlink has released the latest picture of its new ferry - Victoria of Wight - currently being built in Turkey.

A man has been arrested over an attempted child abduction.

An 11-year-old girl was walking her dog in Sandhill Avenue, Crawley Down at about 16:50 GMT on Tuesday, Sussex Police said.

A dark coloured vehicle stopped alongside her and she was asked to get in, a police spokesman said.

A 35-year-old man from Crawly has been arrested on suspicion of attempted child abduction and remains in police custody.

A man's been found dead lying on a street in Margate.

Police say they were called to Victoria Road at 22:00 GMT last night, where they found the man lying on the pavement.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death is being treated as unexplained.

Brighton and Hove City Council could have borrowed tens of millions of pounds more than it has done towards housing spending - despite asking Government to let it borrow more.

There's currently a cap on how much councils can borrow towards housing. Many in local government say that should change - .

But I've learned that, according to the council's latest forecast, Brighton and Hove will finish the financial year £27m under its limit.

Opposition Green councillors have jumped at this. They say the council should use that room to borrow, now, and buy more housing to tackle homelessness.

The council points out that it plans to borrow £30m over the next three years - not as quickly as the Greens would like, but borrowing nonetheless. That takes it over the cap in 2021.

It says that unless the cap is lifted, it won't be able to plan new projects.

Armed police were called after receiving reports that a gun had been fired in St John's Road, Leatherhead earlier today.

Surrey Police said in a statement: “We were called earlier today by an anonymous caller alleging that a man in a specific vehicle had discharged a firearm.

"The same vehicle was spotted shortly afterwards by officers and kept under observation until it stopped in St John’s Road, Leatherhead.

“Specialist firearms officers detained two men in the vehicle, and a third person (a woman) in a nearby property.

"Early investigations suggest that there was no firearm in the vehicle or property, and there is no evidence of a firearm being discharged.

“We want to thank the public for their understanding as we dealt with this incident.”

A council has won £15m for a leisure centre development

Brighton and Hove City Council's King Alfred project will see the ageing King Alfred Leisure Centre replaced with new sports facilities as part of a development which also includes homes.

The government announced a £866m investment to get 200,000 new homes built, and Brighton's project will benefit from part of the money.

Council leader Warren Morgan said: “We’re massively pleased and proud to have submitted a bid which has won the second largest single sum in the country.

"It speaks volumes for our commitment to providing the housing the city desperately needs, alongside a first-class leisure centre. We have achieved a very significant step forward after years of difficulty getting this project off the ground.”
