Holkham is a fantastically rich nature reserve, largely due to its great variety of habitats.

Holkham is special for wildlife because of the great mix of habitats from marshes, dunes and sand spits to wind exposed tide lines, creeks, and shaded pinewoods.

Safety check :Holkham is next to the open sea, so take usual precautions and check tides. Also beware of wartime unexploded bombs which have been found around the reserve
Essential kit:Binoculars or telescopes for bird watching. Warm clothing.
Nature watching:Bird and wildlife watching. Farm, Beach, and Park walks. Lake Nature Trail.
Access:Disabled visitors are allowed to park directly outside the Hall when they visit. There are also disabled parking bays close to the Bygones Museum, Pottery Shop and Stables Cafe.
Hall - main entrance via metal ramp. Access to first floor State Rooms by stair lift. Full disabled access in rest of Hall. Acoustiguide and Braille guides.
Location:Holkham National Nature Reserve extends from Burnham Norton to Blakeney, covering about 4,000 hectares. The reserve is three miles west of Wells-next-the-Sea on the A149. Three car parks linked by the Norfolk Coast Path.
Getting there:

The Norfolk Coasthopper bus service runs from King's Lynn and Hunstanton to Sheringham and makes two stops at Holkham.

Opening times:

Deer Park and grounds - open daily except Christmas Day to walkers and cyclists. Closed to vehicles at weekends from
November to April except Easter.

House - open 1 June to 30 September (except August Bank Holiday) daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 1pm to 5pm. August Bank Holiday - 26, 27 & 28 August - open 12 noon to 5pm.

Charges:Free entry to grounds. House - Adults £6.50; Children £3.25.
