i think it is a joke banning the players from signing shirts because most of the people wanting sigs are genuine and like me i wait outside in the cold hoping for a signiture from my favourite player(s) at old trafford, especially when i can only go once a year it is annoying. But it is a good idea to stop people making money out of it.

If i go to Manchester United and did not get an autograph from Christiano Ronaldo or Wayne Rooney i will be very disapointed !!!
Jamie, London
If i went to manchester to visit the players i would be disapointed if i couldn't get autographs because i would have have travelled far and would hope to leave with souveniers of my favourite players!
dave london
money grabbers......no not the players the agents are the ones stopping the signing of autographs......they tell players not to sign anything then arrange there own signing sessions for the players.....who gets the money the AGENTS....the sooner players look after there own lifes the better the game will be.
bethan amy
they should be allowed to sign tishirts or footballs

I got a program signed on the USA tour by Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, Alan Snith, Phil and Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Phillip Bardsley, Ryan Giggs, Diego Forlan, John O'Shea, Christopher Eagles, Rio Ferdinand, and Tim Howard by waiting outside the players locker room and getting field passes to wait and get autographs. The players were signing balls too. Does anyone know how much the program would sell for?

Are they only banned from signing shirts at carrington, or everywhere in the world they go? I am attending the USA 2004 tour, and was hoping to get a couple of shirts signed to hang on my wall....am I out of luck? Will they not allow it at the USA tour practice sessions either???

I FEEL ITS OK FOR THEM COME OUT WITH THIS SORT OF ARRANGEMENT. THEY HAVE ALL THE SAY BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BIGGEST SUPPORTED CLUB IN THE WORLD.
tom foley Kent
come on United! how much do your players make each week? $55000? why stop the fans from getting $150 in their backpockets. give us distant fans the glory of owning a signed shirt!
Mark Wilhyde USA
I live in the US how do i get something signed by keano when they only come here once a year and dodnt sign anything? ill tell you how ebay this will just make it more expensive now. ive been to a bunch of pga events and i always had a lot of respect for tom lehman he stays and signs everything, its a nice change from the other guys who duck out after a couple. Of course Man U can make rules just like anyone else.
MARK FROM LONDON
I have always been a keen autograph collector and have been tv talking about this, i feel all stars whether they be film,tv or sports personalities should always be willing to sign any item whether its for a fan or not. Its the public who make them what they are and if the players are making alot of money surely the people who make a effort to turn up are entitled to make a bit as well. Its going to happen any way as its been happening for years. Im always in full support of pleasing the public and if the public want to meet you and have a pic then thats ok too
Gaz Jones Droylesden
I have everyones autograph, I love each and every player and think they should sell autographs for as much as possible, I love Ryan best of all.
Sean in Chorlton
I think its a bit of a joke, I regularly collect the autographes of the different teams in the north west including City, Bolton, Wigan and even Stockport, most of the time you can good fun with the players but asking a United player for an autograph is like asking for a kidney!! People are grossly over estimating prices these thing go for on eBay, after you take the cost of the shirt out, travelling expenses, time taken and eBay fees you will be shocked at how little is made. Many autograph hunters will tell you that the reason they have been told to stop signing autograph is because United are going to sell signed shirts in the club shop for 3 or 4 times what you can get them for on eBay. Get a grip united!

Don't we live in a capitalist society where the idea is to make ourselves some money?
jack
first of all i dont know how you come up with these touts are "violent" and second what does it matter to Man United if some people are giving others what they want
Chris W, Stockport
I can see it from everyones point of view. It is a shame when touts/scammers etc are making lots of money from these items, but it does also give fans who cant normally get hold of these items, a chance to own their own piece of memorabilia. Who knows!!!!
Emma, Bromley
How many of you have got a signed shirt?
ALI ABADY ,BURY
I THINK MANHESTER UNITED IS DOING GOOD ,BUT LET THEM STOP MAKING TWOMUCH MONEY PROFITS GIVE CHANCER FOR OTHERS
Andrew, Manchester, UK.
These touts are arogrant, violent unsociable human beings. These items end up on eBay and the overseas fans, and a die hard fans in the UK will end up paying hundreds for these items. I once saw a signed Roy Keane picture in a frame go for 拢1500. Now this is just beyond a joke. This money is going straight in the pocket of a tout, when the club could give these shirts to a chairty to auction off. Man U have made the right decision, it's about time other clubs followed.
Marc, Newcastle
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? EVEN IF THESE GUYS ARE SELLING THE AUTOGRAPHS COLLECTED OVER EBAY-ITS GIVING PPL THE CHANCE TO GET SOMETHING THEY HAVE PROBABLY NO CHANCE OF OBTAINING-THEY MIGHT NOT WANT TO AND WAIT IN THE RAIN, THEY MIGHT NOT KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT IT AND THEY MIGHT LIVE ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY!!! IF ANYTHING THEY ARE DELIVERING A SERVICE! RICHEST SPORTING CLUB IN THE WORLD-THIS IS A DISGRACE. IT THE LEAST THESE PLAYERS CAN DO AS THE FANS PAY THEIR WAGES. I WISH THERE WAS SOME KIND OF INDEPENDANT COMMISSION TO STOP FAT CATS AND GREED. THEY ARE MAKING MONEY WHEN THE GUYS BUY THERE SHIRTS OR BALLS TO HAVE THEM SIGNED....!!!
Patrick Manchester
Roy Keane has recognised repeat autograph hunters and uses his own discretion to avoid them and target the real fans.Unfortunately the problem has increased and this option would appear to be penalising the fans, not protecting them. The unofficial channels appear to be accepted as official channels as ebay and others tout cup final "packages" when they are no better than black market touts.
Jim Wilmslow
I suggest that United actively encourages palyers to sign balls etc to flood the market. The net auction prices should fall and render the scam useless.
Paul Tolley New York
It's not the fans they are looking to prevent from getting autogragh's it's the illegal profiteers. It's well within their right and I don't have a problem understanding that.
Dani, Manchester
I don't agree with this at all. As a child, I always went to 'The Cliff' which was then uniteds training ground to collect autographs on shirts, team picutres, posters, take photographs etc., why should young fans today not be allowed to do this, just because of a few spoiling touts it?
Paul, Manchester
Maybe Man Utd don't want their fans to get ripped off?
Dave, Newcastle
This is an absolute disgrace. At the end of the day these fans put money into the club by paying 拢40.00 each (the club has a nerve to talk about extortion of fans charging that much!) and I imagine stand in the cold for hours on end waiting for these players who rarely sign autographs as it is. The fact they are banning signing shirts is a joke - no doubt we will see 'official' signed Man Utd shirts in the club shops soon starting at 拢500.00.
John, Manchester
The recent embargo on United playes not signing Footballs or shirts is commendable, The concern is to keep the touts away from Carrington, the club suggest Paper or a programme as examples. It is disingenuous to suggest that children who can afford a shirt but not an autograph book or blank paper will suffer. The ban only applies to shirts or footballs, due to the exorbitant prices on ebay. The touts can spoil the unique atmosphere at the training ground which children especially enjoy, United also say special requests will be considered.
It seems perfectly reasonable to me.
Chris, Aberdeen
On one hand, it does sound logical, why should these "fans" make money out of the club this way, it costing the club money and it's ripping off the honest fans who buy them (e.g. via ebay). But on the other hand, there are kids who are going to be refused an autograph from their favourite players simply because they can't supply a blank sheet of paper. There's gonna be a few disappointed faces around training camps (and perhaps a few annoyed parents) but in the long run, it's a good move!
DARREN PRESTWICH
I THINK ITS TYPICAL OF MANCHESTER UNITED TO DO SUCH A THING.THEY DONT CARE ABOUTH THE FANS AS LONG AS THEY MAKE MONEY THEMSELVES.
