As we approach 'Berlioz 150鈥� - marking the 150th anniversary of his death in 2019 鈥� today鈥檚 programme explores some of Berlioz鈥檚 lesser-known music and the legacy of his influence on later composers.
This afternoon includes Berlioz's overture inspired by the heroic Scottish clansman Rob Roy and the Scherzo from 'Rom茅o et Juliette: Queen Mab'. Baritone Marcus Farnsworth performs the Jean-Paul-脡gide Martini penned french love song "Plaisir d'amour", arranged for orchestra by Berlioz in 1859.
Cellist Istvan Vardai takes the solo part in Dutilleux's 'Tout un monde lointain...' (A whole distant world..., considered one of the most important 20th-century additions to the cello repertoire, each of the five movements a meditation on poems by Baudelaire.
