Chief Conductor Sofi Jeannin celebrates the work of one of England’s finest composers, Henry Purcell. At the heart of the programme is a concert performance of his opera, Dido and Aeneas, world-famous for Dido’s powerful and emotional lament, which comes at the work's heart-rending climax. Alongside this landmark work of the Baroque era are three of the composer’s most beloved sacred works – Rejoice in the Lord always, known as the Bell Anthem, performed with two pieces written for the Coronation of King James II at Westminster Abbey in 1685.
