In this concert as part of the London Jazz Festival, the 91Èȱ¬ Concert Orchestra collaborates with boundary-crossing cellist Abel Selaocoe and his trio Chesaba for a celebration of music from across the African continent. As orchestra and trio take turns in the spotlight – as well as joining together – they feature arrangements of traditional songs; Barak Schmool’s 20th Meridian, journeying through the African countries along the longitudinal line 20 degrees east of Greenwich; and Tarik O’Regan’s Raï, his tribute to the Algerian popular genre.
You can listen to the concert on 91Èȱ¬ Radio 3 at 7.30pm on 20 November, and for 30 days on 91Èȱ¬ Sounds. The concert will also be available to watch online. Look out for further details! The concert was recorded on 17 November.
