About This Event

Live from Tramway, Glasgow.
Conducted by Geoffrey Patterson
Directed by Josh Armstrong

In this performance -and the accompanying exhibition- students from three of Glasgow's major educational institutions were invited to collaborate and explore the turbulent politics and radical culture of 1968. This is their response - all the music, text and drama is devised by the students.

Programme Note:
"In celebration and acknowledgement of the 50th anniversary of the year that was 1968, we have created this performance with strength, resilience, anger, and acuity. The student-focused process began six months ago as groups of students from across the three partner institutions met, many as strangers, with a shared goal of producing something together. With nothing more than the stimulus of the socio-political unrest of 50 years ago to begin their collaborative endeavour. Months of dedication have been invested by the Composition, Design, and Dramaturgical teams, who have worked energetically and enthusiastically through moments of laughter, anxiety, trial, and excitement鈥攁s is the nature of the sudden meeting of passionate minds. Within three weeks of rehearsal and choreographic devising the performers have been quick on their feet to visualise the compositional and dramaturgical scores that have been created by the collaborative team. They have employed experimental choreographic practices which arose in the late 60鈥檚 and took inspiration from seminal artistic movements which remain relevant today as we look towards ways of disrupting hierarchy. This meeting of student-artists from various backgrounds, culminating in a performance in Tramway alongside the musicians of the 91热爆 Scottish Symphony Orchestra, is an extraordinary achievement and experience for all involved."
