Concert Information
Fast-rising young conductor Joshua Weilerstein leads this afternoon鈥檚 concert and a programme that includes Brahms fourth and final symphony.
This afternoon's concert begins with Beethoven鈥檚 beloved Egmont overture; a powerfully emotional piece about a sixteenth century Dutch nobleman.
Former Pulitzer Prize for Music winner Caroline Shaw's string piece 贰苍迟谤鈥檃肠迟别, composed in 2011 was inspired by Haydn鈥檚 Op. 77 No. 2. Originally scored for string quartet, today it will be performed by the rich sound of a string orchestra.
Written in the 2 years following his Third, the rich complexity of Brahms鈥檚 Symphony No. 4 represents the full flowering of the German symphonic tradition in all its depth and opulence.
Brahms Intermezzo in E flat Op 117 No 1 arranged by Austrian musician and composer Paul Klengel is a short work that brings the concert to a close.
