Having the right mix of people, ideas and experiences at the 91Èȱ¬ will mean we continue to provide world-class content for everybody.
Welcome to the Creative Diversity i-Hub, an intuitive one stop shop to support our suppliers and programme-makers to make their content and production teams more inclusive and representative.
This hub brings together the wealth of resources, information, guidance and best practice the 91Èȱ¬ and the wider industry has to offer.
Our Diversity Commitments
We want the stories we tell and the people who make them to reflect the lives of all our audiences across the UK.
To help achieve this, the 91Èȱ¬ commits to prioritising a portion of our existing commissioning budget, over three years from April 2021 to March 2024, towards diverse and inclusive content. The commitment is to invest a minimum total of £112m to increase representation on screen, on and off-air, of which a minimum of £100m is for Television and £12m for Radio.
In the first two years of this Creative Diversity Commitment, the 91Èȱ¬ has invested into diverse and inclusive TV & Radio content.
To qualify for the investment our commissioners are looking for programme ideas that meet two out of the three criteria listed:
- Diverse Content – diverse stories and on-air portrayal
- Diverse Company Leadership – senior roles in the companies that make our programmes diverse
- Diverse Production Leadership – in TV Commissioning only – 20% of the off-air influential roles involved in shaping and making our programmes should be from a diverse background.
For all new commissions from April 2021 we are asking production companies to commit to at least 20% of their production teams being from the following under-represented groups:
- Those from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds:
- Those with lived experience of a disability
- Those from low-income backgrounds - to achieve socio-economic diversity (SED)
