Today the surf has totally dropped off, so we decided to head over to Waikiki earlier in the day than drive over there in the evening when everyone else is. It would probably be the most painful experience ever.

e went to Walmart last nigh to buy costumes. I went straight to the Batman outfits, size 11-12 and Josh said: "Haha if you fit in that I will go as that Bride costume over there."

As it turned out I actually fit into Batman pretty snugly and so Beth too bought a Batman outfit, amd George and Josh bought Bride costumes (and wigs). Arron got a basketball outfit with a matching afro. Basically we wanted to look awesome. Now all we had to do is persuade Joel and Martin to go as hula girls.

Waikiki waves are slow and peeling. It's more of a longboard wave to be honest and only young grommets learning to surf go out to shortboard. Historically Waikiki is very important as during the 19th century, some western cultures strongly discouraged surfing, viewing it as sinful.

By the early 20th century, only a handful of people longboarded, mostly at Waikiki where it originated in Hawaii. But there, it started to grow again.

The sport became popular in the late '50s and as the sport evolved the surfboards became shorter. But Waikiki was always the start point in Hawaii for longboarding. No one did it anywhere else but there, so it should be pretty fun giving it a go.
